William Wordsworth’s I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud – Word Meaning & Explanation in Hindi
I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud

Poem: I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud

Poet: William Wordsworth

Published: 1807

Theme: Nature, Beauty, Imagination, Joy

Stanza 1

Poem:

I wandered lonely as a cloud

That floats on high o'er vales and hills,

When all at once I saw a crowd,

A host, of golden daffodils;

Beside the lake, beneath the trees,

Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Explanation (English):

The poet says he was wandering alone like a floating cloud over valleys and hills. Suddenly, he saw a large number of beautiful golden daffodil flowers near a lake and under the trees. The flowers were moving and dancing happily in the breeze.

Stanza 2

Poem:

Continuous as the stars that shine

And twinkle on the milky way,

They stretched in never-ending line

Along the margin of a bay:

Ten thousand saw I at a glance,

Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

Explanation (English):

The poet compares the daffodils to the shining stars in the Milky Way. They were spread endlessly along the shore of the lake. He felt as if there were thousands of them, waving their heads in a lively dance.

Stanza 3

Poem:

The waves beside them danced; but they

Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:

A poet could not but be gay,

In such a jocund company:

I gazed—and gazed—but little thought

What wealth the show to me had brought.

Explanation (English):

The waves of the lake were also dancing, but the flowers were even more cheerful and lively. The poet says that anyone would feel happy in such a joyful company of flowers. He kept gazing at them without realizing at that moment how valuable that sight would later become to him.

Stanza 4

Poem:

For oft, when on my couch I lie

In vacant or in pensive mood,

They flash upon that inward eye

Which is the bliss of solitude;

And then my heart with pleasure fills,

And dances with the daffodils.

Explanation (English):

Later, when the poet is alone and relaxed or thoughtful, the memory of the daffodils comes to his mind. He feels great joy and peace in remembering that scene. His heart fills with happiness and dances with the daffodils again in his imagination.

Summary in Short (English):

This poem describes the joy and peace that nature gives to a lonely heart. Wordsworth shows how the beauty of daffodils stayed in his memory and became a lasting source of happiness.

Themes /

  • Beauty of Nature (प्रकृति की सुंदरता)
  • Power of Memory and Imagination
  • Joy in Solitude (एकांत में आनंद)

 Poetic Devices (अलंकार):

Poetic Device    Example                    Explanation (हिन्दी अर्थ)

Simile.            “Lonely as a cloud”.

Personification “Dancing daffodils”

Alliteration “Beside the lake, beneath the trees” एक ही ध्वनि की पुनरावृत्ति (b sound)।

Imagery “A host of golden daffodils”

Hyperbole “Ten thousand saw I at a glance”
